An Honest Politician
Yesterday, Mike Huckabee admitted that he wants to change the U.S. Constitution to make it comply with his biblical god beliefs. For years now, politicians whose motives were clearly theocratic, have hidden behind supposedly secular rationales for their attempts to change the U.S. Constitution. Just look at the “secular” arguments for traditional (i.e. Biblical) marriage to be imposed on all civil marriages:
· Studies show children fare better with male/female parents (reliable studies actually show that the gender of parents makes no difference in their children’s well-being)
· Civil marriage rights are given solely for the purpose of biological procreation (in reality, couples who can’t or won’t procreate get civil marriage benefits anyway; and adopting parents are also permitted to marry, but only if they are a female and a male – unless they are in Massachusetts)
· Appropriate gender roles require that a marriage include a bread-winning male and a nurturing submissive female (don’t even get me started on this one!)
Now we know, thanks to Huckabee, that the real reason was, the Bible told them so … and even if you don’t share their belief, you must live under laws comporting with their belief.
Here at the Secular Coalition for America, we couldn’t help wondering what other laws would need to change to comport with Huckabee’s biblical god-beliefs:
· Would birth control be prohibited? This would require a change to the Constitution since the U.S. Supreme Court decided such laws were unconstitutional.
· What about spilling one’s seed? Would masturbation be prohibited … and if it were, who would be tasked with enforcing the law? (Given his dissent in Lawrence v. Texas, Justice Antonin Scalia would welcome such a law.)
· Would blasphemy require a death sentence? And if so, what words would be considered blasphemous? Would only Huckabee’s specific god be included in the prohibition against taking the lord’s name in vain, or would Yaweh, Allah, Thor, and the Great Plate of Spaghetti in the Sky (all hail his noodly appendage!) be included?
Suffice to say, Governor Huckabee gives us much to ponder.

Huckleberry is too conservative on religion and too liberal on criminals and the economy and immigration.
Huckabye? Huckabee wants to have adulterers, homosexuals and rape victims stoned to death. He also wants to make alcohol and music videos illegal, and make women 2nd class citizens and to take all girls out of school.
Oops, my bad, that’s another ‘religion’.

Funny, the source for those policies you cite as belonging to another religion (from your blog, I assume you’re a Christian) are in fact from the Old Testament, a very integral part of the Christian faith.
Read your Deuteronomy and Leviticus. It’ll inform you what your own religion’s about, plus keep you off the streets.
“As democracy is perfected, the office of President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
- H.L. Mencken, 1925
“This may be the year when we finally come face to face with ourselves; finally just lay back and say it — that we are really just a nation of 220 million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns, and no qualms at all about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.”
- Hunter S. Thompson, November 1972
Under President Huckabee, we will outlaw the use of the godless metric system, a product of Enlightenment thought, the same that gave us *gasp* seckoolar Hoomanism!!
Dollars and cents will be replaced by shekels. Capital punishment will be imposed for dozens of crimes, such as a woman being found on her wedding night to be not a virgin. A man who lusts after a woman in his heart will be as guilty as a rapist.
All houses will be required to have a parapet around the roof. Your clothing must be made of cloth woven from only one kind of thread. And of a man wants a particular girl as wife, he will have to pay her father for her with two hundred foreskins (1 Samuel 18)
It will no longer be lawful to eat oysters, shrimp of lobster, but people can eat human excrement if hungry (Isaiah 36). So long as you’re not a bishop you can be a bigamist. (1 Timothy 3).
Francis,
1 Timothy 3 and bigamy, could you explain. Thanks!

Francis,
In no way shape or form will I suggest that you or anyone else have not the right to trash what you know or believe to be Christianity practice here by most Americans. But, one must rail falsely out of anger which makes them to appear ignorant; not saying you are. That being said though, I must correct you on your knowledge of Christian doctrine.
1. There is no “Christian” (maybe Judaism) doctrine anywhere on the planet, in any bible translation which states that a women not being a virgin on her wedding night will receive capital punishment. If so, book/chapter and verse please.
2. There is no “Christian” (maybe Judaism) doctrine anywhere on the planet, in any bible translation which states that if a man who lusts after a woman in his heart will be as guilty as a rapist. Nor does are there any suggestion on punishment of such an act. If so, book/chapter and verse please.
But it does state the following:
Matthew 5:27-28
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
So please tell me Francis, how would Huckabee know, does he also have ESP?
3. There is no “Christian” (maybe Judaism) doctrine anywhere on the planet, in any bible translation which states a requirement to have a parapet around one roof. If so, book/chapter and verse please.
4. As for the clothing comment which totally lost me; we’ve got those “Hempers”
5. Your old testament references are not Christian, they’re just references.
6. There is no “Christian” (maybe Judaism) doctrine anywhere on the planet, in any bible translation which state so long as you’re not a bishop you “can” be a bigamist. If so, book/chapter and verse please.
But it does state the following:
Romans 7:1-3
1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth ?
2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
So francis, I’m not saying you can’t trash Christianity, I’m saying trash it with truth and accuracy, because others may regurgitate what you stated and get thier tails handed to them by a Christian for speaking out of igno-rants. Just a thought!

Brotha BFBF, if your comments are intended for me, please address them as a PM, not on list. I am at fra59e@yahoo.com
I hope you do not assume that I am hostile to Christianity per se. I respect Christianity as the current representative of the ancient tradition of the god-man, the Osiris, son of God, who dies, is resurrected, and offers eternal life to his devotées, who remember him in the sacred meal of bread and wine. If Augustine and Jerome had not suppressed the Humanist thinking of Pelagius, Christianity might have developed as a benign and constructive humanistic religious faith.
The Christianity worthy of respect today, held by the majority of the world’s Christians, is represented by the three major communions - Roman, Orthodox and Anglican, when they are at their best and true to their traditions.
I despise the obscurantism of fundamentalists deceived by the foolish *sola scriptura* fallacy. They become idolaters, worshipping not the man, Y’shua, a humanistic figure, but the writings which purport to describe him. They make a god of ink on paper. So far as I know he never said “On this rock I will write my book.”
Humanism is a positive and constructive movement forward for humanity. It transcends rather than necessarily repudiates Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Scientology, Hinduism, or anything else. It is, however, a clear repudiation of the allegation that imaginative supernaturalism is a valid source of ethical guidance.
Accepting that humanity is natural, Humanism recognizes human experience as the foundation for sound decisionmaking on moral issues. Humanism is an ethical process through which we can all move above and beyond the dogmas of past religions. Observable, verifiable experience is a more solid foundation than the campfire stories of homeless wanderers in Middle East deserts of the Bronze Age.
As a scientist, I am alarmed to see Bible-worship blinding many Americans to modern biology. It would be disturbing if Mr. Huckabee or anyone else uninformed and willfully ignorant of reality should be in control of the red button that could destroy us all.
Francis,
I think you are critical of Christianity, and that’s fine, you have every right! With all do respect though, regarding what you’ve stated above has nothing to do with my comment. When you misquote or misuse Christian doctrine in order to argue a fact or fantasy regarding the Christian belief of a person, you must be 100% accurate about what the Christian doctrine states; if not it becomes vain speech, one not knowing anything. In fact, Huckabee did not state in detail what parts of the constitution he proposes for change, so you were speculating, inaccurately.
Now as far as me reponding to you privately, it will not benefit the reader that may believe and want to regurgitate your inaccurate scriptural references. In otherwords, responding to you openly may prevent any misquoting or inaccurate interpretation of any religous or spiritual doctrine of any group on this site again. I say this not to offend, just to help. Thanks
